Aluminum Fence Installation in Tallahassee

Ornamental aluminum fencing for Tallahassee yards, pools and front gardens, from local fence contractors.

Aluminum gives you the look of iron without the rust. It keeps views open, meets pool barrier rules when it's built right, and fits neighborhoods where HOAs don't want a wall of wood across the backyard. Tell us what you're fencing and we'll connect you with a local installer.

Aluminum fencing for open views and low upkeep

An aluminum fence is powder-coated metal made to look like classic wrought iron. The difference that matters in North Florida is that aluminum doesn't rust. Humid summers, sprinkler overspray and the occasional salty breeze that reaches inland after a Gulf storm are all things steel and iron fight, and aluminum mostly shrugs off.

It's also light, which makes installation faster and keeps costs below true iron. Black is by far the most common finish in Tallahassee, followed by bronze and white. In planned communities, HOA guidelines often favor aluminum for lots that back up to golf courses, ponds or common areas, because it keeps views open.

Styles, heights and grades

Flat-top and pressed-spear designs are the most common. A flat-top fence with the rails running across the top reads clean and modern, and a spear-top reads traditional. Puppy pickets, extra pickets added at the bottom, close the gaps for small dogs. Heights run from about four feet for front yards and pool barriers to five and six feet for backyards.

Aluminum comes in residential, commercial and heavier industrial grades. Residential grade suits most homes. Heavier grades with thicker pickets and rails make sense for commercial frontage, gated entries, and anywhere the fence might take a knock from a mower or a vehicle.

What contractors typically handle

  • Flat-top, spear-top and finial styles
  • Four- to six-foot residential heights
  • Pool-compliant layouts with self-closing gates
  • Puppy pickets for small pets
  • Rackable panels for sloped yards
  • Walk gates and matching drive gates

Aluminum around pools, golf courses and HOA lots

Much of northeast Tallahassee was built as planned communities with homeowners associations, and HOA architectural review often favors aluminum because it doesn't block views of lakes, fairways and green space. If you live in Killearn, Golden Eagle, Southwood or a similar subdivision, check your covenants and get approval before the contractor orders material.

Aluminum panels are rackable, meaning they can lean to follow a slope instead of stepping down in stair-steps. That matters on the rolling Red Hills terrain north of downtown, where very few backyards are flat. On steeper grades a contractor may combine racking with a few stepped sections.

How aluminum fence installation usually goes

1

Confirm the approval

If an HOA or architectural review board governs the lot, the style, color and height get approved first.

2

Layout and utilities

The fence line and gate locations are marked, and Sunshine 811 locates buried utilities.

3

Set posts

Posts are set in concrete at the spacing the panels require, plumb and at the right height.

4

Attach panels

Panels bolt or slide into the posts and are racked to follow the grade where needed.

5

Gates and hardware

Gates get hung with hinges and latches, including self-closing hardware for pool areas.

Aluminum Fence Installation cost in Tallahassee

General industry figures put installed aluminum fencing around $25 to $55 per linear foot for common residential styles. Heavier grades, taller fences and decorative add-ons cost more. Those numbers are published reference ranges, not our pricing and not a quote.

Aluminum usually lands above chain link and wood and below true wrought iron or steel. Gates, especially wide drive gates, add to the total.

Protect yourself with a written scope, a clear payment schedule and your own check of the contractor's license and insurance. Be cautious with large cash deposits or pressure to sign the same day.

What moves the price

  • Grade and picket thickness
  • Height and style
  • Gates and self-closing hardware
  • Slope and racking
  • Decorative finials or puppy pickets

Aluminum Fence Installation questions

Will an aluminum fence rust?

Aluminum doesn't rust the way steel and iron do. The powder coat protects the finish, and a scratched spot can be touched up with matching paint from the manufacturer.

Can aluminum be a pool barrier in Florida?

Yes, when the height, picket spacing and gates meet Florida's residential pool barrier rules. Gates must open outward from the pool and be self-closing and self-latching. Confirm the layout with the contractor and the building department.

Is aluminum strong enough to keep a dog in?

For most dogs, yes. Small breeds may slip through standard picket spacing, which is what puppy pickets are for. Diggers may need a buried barrier along the bottom.

How long does aluminum fencing last?

With a quality powder coat it can last for decades with little more than washing. Damage usually comes from impact, like a falling limb or a vehicle, rather than weather.

Does my HOA need to approve an aluminum fence?

If your property is in a subdivision with covenants, likely yes. Submit the style, color and height for approval before work starts.
